System Restore question

I'm using a Dell PC running XP Home SP1. We've had this computer for
slightly over a month, and just yesterday, I used the System Restore feature
for the first time. I restored the computer using a restore point 24 hours
old. So far, the computer seems to be okay. One question, though: does
using System Restore make the computer less stable in any way? Are there
any drawbacks to using System Restore?

System Restore is well-designed, and not considered destabilizing. Keep in
mind that it cannot bring back data files (duh!) and that it will undo
Updates and other downloads that occurred post-restore-point.Of course, it
is reversible.
The only downside is that you sacrifice a goodly chunk of your HDD space in
order to support the feature, but this can be manipulated easily if you so
desire.

System Restore works ok when it works. It's a cumulative
file and is known to corrupt. It basically restores your
system state ( meaning the registry and File structure ).
It does not restore files or data, do a back-up for that.

A back-up of the registry can come in handy too.

Get Erunt for your registry. It puts
a folder on your root dir with a installer.

Seconded. I've only had System Restore fail once. Erunt saved me from
a reinstall. Very easy to use.

No - it has put the system side of things (not any user data) back to
*exactly* how they were. It is much the best way of unwinding changes
back to a consistent state
