I have tried numerous restore points using System retore
and not one will work. I keep getting a message after it
runs the program telling me to select another date. I do
thatand I get the same response. Any help to get this
functioning is greatly appreciated.

Your system restore points are very likely corrupted. Turn off system
restore, reboot, then turn it on again. That will delete all previous
points and create a new one. Do not depend on system restore the
same way as you would a good backup. Although system restore works
and is handy, it is no substitute for a good backup.

While you are correct even "good backups" can be corrupted as I recently
discovered when trying to load a backup (image) made with True Image.

Also, before turning it on again, have Folder Options - View set to show
Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones and look in the
System Volume Information folder. Delete everything in it - there may
be 'orphaned' files left there which will merely clog up disk space
