System Restore Problem

I am having problems in getting the system restore
function to "work", ie, get at the user interface to
either perform a system restore or manually create a
restore point.

I have checked using the MS recommended method to see if
the system restore service is running (open a cmd prompt
window and type net start) and it shows the system restore
service is running.

I have gotten two different errors when I tried clicking
on system restore accessed through:
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

-one says that I do not have sufficient privileges to
restore my pc, although I am logged onto an account with
administrator privileges.

-the second error message I sometimes have gotten is--
-"the service cannot be started either because it is
disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated
with it"

I am fairly certain the system resource service itself is
running by using the cmd prompt and net start. Also I can
look in the system restore folder at a log event file and
see that it is logginig restore points currently.

I am just not sure how to get the interface that would
allow me either to perform a system restore or to manually
create a restore point.

Appreciate any feedback.

I don't know if this will work for you but it did for me,
I turned System restore off and restarted my computer
then turned it back on and restarted again and it was
fixed.
BUT.... YOU WILL LOSE ALL SAVED RESTORE POINTS AND HAVE
TO START OVER FROM THE DAY YOU DO THIS.
Good luck ......... Rick Mc

OK---thanks--I tried your fix and it didnt work on my
system. Is your system XP Home or Professional? In reading
through some of the MS info, there seem to be some subtle
differences. I have XP Home and mine is the only user
account.

Also, just curious--how much space are you allocating for
system restore? Taking up 12% of the disk seems excessive
just to store what is basically the same info each time a
restore point is saved--

I only use 2% for system restore,It takes you back about
3 to 4 weeks, And make restore points my self when I do
any majior changes.
Oh I'm using XP Home, I have some more info on system
restore, I'll try to find where I put it and I'll send it
to you.
