System Restore points all being deleted

A couple of days ago, the system deleted all of its restore points more than
30 days old, like it should. Then, on the next automatic checkpoint
creation, it deleted all of the restore points. When it created a new
checkpoint today, it deleted the previous point. I have checked everything
plenty of disk space, with almost a gb allocated for system restore. Nothing
has really changed on the system over the past couple of weeks, and I have
not seen this behavior before. Any ideas?
This is XP home SP2 with all current updates.

Bruce,

Had the same problem -- couldn't figure out why I was losing my system
restore points. Then I checked the system log in my Event Viewer and
found an error entitled "sr" that led me to the following page:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888402&sd=ee

Apparently, there's a bug in both XP Home and Pro that can prevent the
system from monitoring the hard drive properly for system restore
purposes, which in effect keeps eliminating past restore points. You
might try checking your Event Viewer to see if this Hotfix applies to
your problem.

Hope that helps.

I realize that I'm 2 years late, but I just started logging the 'sr' errors
on two different machines. Where/how can I obtain the Hotfix for this
problem?

Thanks.

Been there, done that. I get prompted to enter a credit card for payment of
$59 charge. Tried calling instead, got 6 different voice menu messages
before saying, screw it. There should be a much more straightforward way for
customers to get a hotfix [known bug, with fix available]. A no-nonsense
phone number where need could be quickly verified, or a website where some
form of qualification could be used to permit a download.

These are not government secrets here, just programming problems with known
cures. Thanks anyway....

Hi,

Normally the charges are dropped for hotfixes.
