System Restore not working.

Frank Martin

I have set the System Restore to 10% for each of the C: D:
E: drives, yet there is no indication (bold dates) on the
system restore calendar.

It has been working up until recently.

Please help, Frank

Verify that the Task Scheduler is running:
Go to Start>> Run. Type in: services.msc [Enter] or click OK.
Scroll the alphabetical list until you find the Task Scheduler entry.
Make sure the Service is set to "Automatic" and the status is "started".

Another reason could be that your system is running applications on a
constant basis. If the system does not see any idle time, it will not create
a Restore Point. This is because it is programmed to wait until it can get a
good snapshot of your system. Try disabling programs that you see might be
causing this issue. Once stopped, you should get regular Restore Points again.

Also, if the operating system is on the C: Drive, there's no use in having
SR monitor the D: & E: Drives since there's no "System" files running on
them.

Not exactly THE answer - but I just read a little about sys
restore and it does not store ALL the configurations, which may
explain so many message about people having problems with it or
just dumping it altogether. It just stores what MS /thinks/ is
the most important.

Since you have at least 3 partitions, I will take the risk of
assuming C: is system and programs only. Get it set up JUST
RIGHT, clean the registry and all the tmp etc. files out, defrag
it, and image it with Acronis or one of the several free utils
that do the same. Much better than sys restore, and takes up a
lot less space too.

AFA the other (presumably data) drives, just do backups - when I
have something I need, I put it on a CD-R (see below).

There are only two classifications of disk drives: Broken drives
and those that will break later.
- Chuck Armstrong (This one I think, http://www.cleanreg.com/,
not the ball player. But who knows. I can't remember where I got
the quote. But it's true.)

Thank you, I removed two recently- installed programs (EBIT
virus scanner - trial version) and the "SuperSpyware"
scanner, and the System Restore is working again.

Thanks, I'll turn off the SR on D&E drives.
