System Restore mystery (Kelly?)

Bert Smith

Hi all,

I have 2 physical hard drives on my XP SP-1 system. Each hard drive has
4x10 GB partitions. The boot system drive is C: which has 53 % free space.
The other partitions have much larger amounts of free space. System restore
has been activated in control panel. It is shown as automatic and started
under services and applications, net start run from a command prompt shows
that system restore is running. 12 % of all my partitions are allocated to
restore points. I am logged on as administrator.

I can create manual restore points, but they are not created automatically
by the system. My understanding is that they should be automatically
created every 24 hours. I was away for 2 days last week. On examining
event viewer no restore points had been created during my absence, and none
have been automatically created for some considerable time.

I have carried out the procedures as outlined in Kelly's
www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm, but I am no closer to solving the
mystery as to why restore points are not being created automatically.
Anyone any ideas? Many thanks in advance. Please address any replies to
the news group. My email address is false. Bert Smith

Hi

Have you got any programs running in the background - such as Seti@Home or a real time AV program? These type of programs can prevent the creation of SR Points.

Hi Will

Many thanks for your reply.

The only programs running are NAV 2003, and the Intel Active Monitor. Can
NAV 2003 prevent a system checkpoint? My next-door neighbour has a very
similar system with NAV 2003 running and system checkpoints are always
created. Please address any replies to the news group. My email address is
false. Bert Smith
