System restore points disappearing

For the second time in as many months I have turned to System Restore to
restore my system to an earlier configuration, and both times I have found
that I have no restore points available. Now, to address the obvious, I do
have System Restore turned on, and I also have the amount of hard disk space
available to System Restore turned to full (allowing up to 28GB of space).
Also, I frequently create restore points, at an average of once a week and/or
after every significant installation of software. Question: what is
happening to my restore points!!!??? Is there some setting within Windows XP
that I don't know about that automatically deletes restore points after a
certain number of days has passed? Thanks ahead of time.
