System Restore? Lost data

For the past few days my PC (acer) would give me 2 options every time I
turned it on, either
-Reset everything to default
-Restore to last system restore
Both options warned that I would lose all data.
For the first few days, turning PC off and on again would get rid of the
page (which had the acer logo on it) But today I got annoyed and selected the
second option, to go back to last system restore. The way the PC was telling
me this made me assume it was something security-related which I didn't
understand.
So, now its supposedley 'restored', and I lost everything. And what seems to
have happened is it has restored itself back to July 2005! Before the
computer was mine (still my dad's) And I can't Undo Restore, nor are there
any restore points between 1st of July 2005 and now.
This is really fking annoying, where the hell did all my stuff go? I would
REALLY appreciate it if someone could solve this.

Btw, since the last date I had installed numerous games and programs, so
there should have been loads of restore points to pick from.

You were clearly warned that you would loose data...
so i'm not sure why you were surprised when you lost your data.

I am surprised that it restored back to 9 months ago, instead of when a
program was installed most recently, which would have been within the last 3
months at most. Also that there are no system restore points at all in
between July 2005 and now.

Well, if your data is gone...it's too late now...
Possibly system restore had been turned off?
In the future you can manually create your own restore points...
and more importantly...be sure to backup all the data you need to cd's or
dvd's

Looks like that might be the case... I'm taking it to the shop, see if they
can do anything, hopes aren't high though. I'll be sure to back up everything
next time, thanks.

The screen had the Acer logo and scheme on it when it asked me to reset, so
this is probably the case. I didn't initiate anything myself though. At any
rate, I'll be taking it back to the shop, hopefully warranty covers this? (I
doubt it)
Thank you.

don't bother taking it back to the shop...
you over-wrote the data and that's not warranty...

a data recovery outfit could *possibly* get it back...
but it would be over $1000...
so in the future...be sure to backup all your data... blank cd's or dvd's
only cost a few cents!

Hi,

If the data is erased there is still a possibility to restore it. For
this purpose data recovery tools can be used. The most mighty of them
are imho Active@ Undelete and Uneraser(for DOS). these never failed me,
nor ever corrupted restored files, and were able to bring back data
long considered lost. You can give it a try. That is a real chance for
you to restore.
