Hi,

When I open system restore a blank page comes up so I can not do anything.
I got the same blank page from the safe mode (console).
My os is xp pro.

I could not find anything in groups (find only something about blank
calendar in system restore but it did not solve my problem).

Can someone help me please?

Thanks.

Hi Guka,

Once System Restore goes bad, the only thing you can do is stop it and
restart it. Start/run services.msc, locate the SR service and doubleclick
it. Click the stop button, then set the startup type dropdown to disabled.
Click apply/ok, then reboot.

Then, check the "System Volume Information folder" on each drive and delete
any contents. Reverse the steps to restart it.

Be forewarned that doing this removes all existing restore points, but it
doesn't really matter as they weren't working anyways.

If this does not help, follow these steps to reinstall System Restore:

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the sr.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

Thanks for reply.

I have tried everything you told me but nothing helps.

It seems to me that after I installed last windows updates 2 days ago
several things go wrong:
Media Player, even after new installation, gives an error (An internal
application error has occurred),
Windows Update site is blank,
Services window is in Extended mode blank,
The printer doesn't work,
System restore doesn't work (also after reinstallation),
Norton Antivirus doesn't work,
and I think there other things that malfunction but I am not yet aware of
that.

So I tried to restore the pc but it couldn't be done.

I have checked for viruses but nothing could be found.

I would reinstall the windows but I am not sure if the same will not occur
after installing the windows update.

Hi,

I consistently install and test all Windows Updates, I haven't had anything
like what you describe happen. Do a repair installation, then selectively
(and slowly) install the updates - start with the critical ones first, then
the extras.

Follow these steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data,
settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

Do a reinstall of it. Ensure you can see hidden and system files, then
in the hidden windows\inf folder look for sr.inf
R-click it; take Install.
