Help

Hi i've been trying to restore my computer back to a previous date but I
am having trouble because each time I do so and i log back onto windows,
a window pops up that says that the restore was incomplete and nothing
has changed. I have some errors on my computer as well that are
effecting my internet, making my computer slow, and making it so I
can't search on the internet. If it is possible, I would also like to
know how to restore my computer completely so it is how it was when I
first got that but I mostly just want to get rid of this problem so my
computer can run smoothly. Also, I have tried all of the spyware
programs like Ad-Aware by lavasoft and a few others which you've
recommended but they have done no good. Please help.

Information regarding System Restore

From what you say, however, System Restore will not help.

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on
each drive / partition. To get this information whilst in Windows Explorer
place the cursor on each drive in turn, right click and select Properties.

Regular and effective housekeeping is essential. What you do
and how often you do it will depend on how you use your
computer. A suggested routine may include:
1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.
2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst
OFFLINE.
3. Run Disk Cleanup. Start, Programs, Accessories, System
Tools, Disk Cleanup with Temporary Internet Files, Offline
Web Pages (optional), System Restore ( more Options tab )
and Recycle Bin selected for deletion. If you have more than
one drive / partition you may need to do this operation for
each drive / partition.
4. Remove Cookies. Start, Control Panel, Internet Options,
General, Delete Cookies.
5. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the last day and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.
