System restore hasn't held a restore point since I installed Vista

What's going on? I create a restore point, and the next time I boot the
machine it doesn't exist. Can someone help me here? I've had Vista since
its release, which should give you an idea how long this has been going on.

I had NO problem with this when using XP.

Type System Restore after you hit the Start button, click on the link
the list, then when the System Restore Window shows up select choose a
different restore point then next.

Does anything show up?
 
No, nothing shows up. It's as though I never created any restore points at
all, and I have manually tried to create dozens of them over the past few
months. They are NEVER there when I look for them.
 
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions. After that has completed, try
creating the System Restore Point.

Do you also run Windows XP on that machine?

Did the Command Prompt suggestion -- told me there were some files that were
corrupt and directed me to a CBS.LOG file. Went there, got "access is
denied," so I can't tell you what happened until I can get into that.

As to the other, it briefly runs the startup repair thing, tells me there
are no problems and gives me the message to disconnect any recently connected
items and to try it again (I haven't connected anything in months).

What now?

I have same problem. Crashes all the time. IRQ is more or less not equal or some shit. Tells me that Windows encountered a problem and shut down. NO shit Sherlock and then says I will be notified when a solution is found. ONe year later, I have no solution. I have replaced every driver on the PC. I have run memory test, hd test, etc. No problems

ON Fridays and Sundays, hardisk grinds. Why? nothing is running. Crashes
all day Friday and Sunday.
