Hi, please help me! I have a Toshiba satellite 2410 notebook. I runned system
restore on 12/19/04. When the computer automatically shut down, it couldn't
restart again. It showes windows xp is starting then the screen is dark.
Mouse icon is on the screen. Is there anyway rather than run the
reinstallation! I had plenty of my baby's photo ( since he was born) in the
computer, which are so precise to me. I really don't want to lose them.
Please help me. anxious Faye

Have you tried putting the xp disk in and trying to do a Repair. Hang about
here. There will be plenty of help for you. I really hope you get it sorted.
I wouldn't like to lose those photos

You may re-install a new copy of os (not a fresh copy !!!) in another folder
without reformatting the file system.

Another way to recover is to start the notebook with a copy of Knoppix
(http://www.knoppix.com) or another type of Linux or other OS bootable from a
CD-ROM. In this way you may copy the file via-network on a different computer.

A fresh copy is a new instance of OS without repairing of a pre-existing OS.

A fresh copy is used to have a multi-boot computer.

But in you case there is not difference in fresh or not-fresh: the most
important is to not re-formatting the disk volumes and leave it intact.

Hi Faye,

I would do this first.
How to start the System Restore tool at a command prompt in Windows
XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449

And needless to say, if you don't backup you baby photo they will
eventually be lost. It's just a matter of time. So please backup.
