System restore error

I have copied my complete hard drive onto another new one
using the maxtor maxblast 3 hard drive copying utility.On
the whole it was a success apart from system resore
utility will not open at all and displays the error
message (system restore has encountered an error and
needs to close).Has nyone else encountered this error as
it seems the system restore has been corrupted in some
way? Is it possible to reinstall the system restore
utility without completely restoring windows/

Do a search for the sr.inf file which is normally located in C:\windows. Make
sure you search hidden files in your search criteria.
Right-click on the sr.inf file and select the install option.
