System Restore doesn't work after SP2?

Hi,

System Restore no longer works after I installed SP2.

I followed Bobby Harder's advice in this post
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=#[email protected]&output=gplain
on restarting System Restore but it will not restart.

The dates are grayed out and will not let me click on them to restore a
previous
date.

Any thoughts other than removing SP2 which I hate to do because of all the
features that work fine.

Thanks,

Tom Bowman

If the System Volume Information files have become corrupt, the only way to
recover is to turn system restore off, which will delete all of the current
restore points, and then turn SR back on and create a fresh restore point.

To turn off Windows XP System Restore
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all
drives"

Reboot

To turn on Windows XP System Restore
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all
drives" check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Ronnie and all:

I tried turning off _ then turning on _ System Restore, then rebooting
WinXP Home Edition but this did not work.

Next, I used msconfig and turned off all of the programs running in the
background, I
rebooted, and I lost my System Restore restore points as before.

Finally, I uninstalled SP2 and now I no longer lose my restore points when I
reboot.

Is there anyway to provide feedback on this problem with SP2 to MS?

Thanks much,

Tom

Try this..

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-22793-4

This is a Microsoft Corporation QFE (KB835409) update to resolve a
problem with System Restore after installing Windows XP Service Pack
2.
