System Restore does not work

I have tried to use Sytem Restore using several different dates and each time
I get this response: System Restore did not complete successfully. Your
computer system files and settings were not changed. An unspecified error
occurred during System Restore. I cannot figure out what the unspecified
error is or why System Restore will not restore. Any suggestions. Thanks

Try running System Restore in Safe Mode, its possible that your Antivirus
utility (if you have one installed) is conflicting with it.

Symantec(Norton) installed by any chance. If it is and most probably that is the culprit that is causing this issue. Get rid of Norton. It causes more headaches and issues with XP\W2003\XP than needed. It is not compatible with most Windows Systems

Are there any errors left in event viewer?

I am using Norton Internet Security . Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the help. I ran it in Safe Mode and System Restore worked
correctly. Only difficulty was getting to Safe Mode; finally just shut down
Windows for about 10 seconds when it was operating and when I started it back
up, it gave me the option to work in Safe Mode.
