System restore does not restore

Keeping mind that the only available Restore Points you have were created
after you'd last run Registry Mechanic, restoring the back-ups should
resolve the problem *in the future* but doing so will *not* make the
now-deleted Restore Points available.

Start with the back-ups created when you last ran Registry Mechanic (e.g.,
on or shortly before 05 June).

Not sure how much disc space I have, but I know I have a lot because I save
most of my data in my external hard drive. I check the disk space for the
drivers being monitored and they have plany of space. C has 54.19 GB and d
has 5.06 GB. They both are set for max at 12%.

The other problem, if you look up the entry "Safely Remove Hardware" on June
04, in this discussion you will see what it is.

Thanks a lot for the info.

PS:

If you've restored the most-recent backups, you shouldn't have any problems
in the future (assuming you quite using Registry cleaners altogether) but
restoring the backups will NOT make the now-missing Restore Points available
again, no.

Once burned, twice shy! We've been posting for years, too, advising folks
to avoid Registry cleaners at all costs (cf.
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099) but folks tend to ignore our
warnings until they've screwed the pooch.

Are you certain that System Restore was not monitoring the external
drive when the failing restore points were created. You can find drives
being monitored when the user had no intention of them being monitored
and is not aware that this is so unless they specifically check. BTW
there is also no need to monitor D.

Was the removable drive connected at the time you created the new
restore point? Please see my earlier post.

Apparently Edith needs more convincing:

YW & be sure to tell your friends what you've learned here. <wink>
Thanks Pa Bear, you been most helpful.
PS:

As long as I have the rest of the files backed up, shouldn't System
Restore be able to use them? You know of anything I could do to make
that happen?

I've used RM for years, and this is the first time I have this
problem.

Pa Bear, I don' use the Registry cleaner in Ccleaner. When I use
Registry
Mechanic, (Bought) I do back up everything, except the Temp
Files/Shortcuts.
Those I usually delete.

Unless you have back-ups of the changes made by your Registry
cleaning,
you're pretty much SOL.

By the way, I went through the troubleshootings tips I found in the
link
Gerry send and System Restore seems to be working OK. I went up to
the
point
where you do a System Restore Test, and it restored to the Test
Point
OK.
But I still can't restore to any point before June 05, 2009 which is
what
I
want to do because I trying to fix another problem in my computer.

Are you running AVG Pro or Free? Is it v7.5, v8.0 or v8.5?

I use Ccleaner, and Registry Mechanic just about every day except
for
the
last 2 days. could that have something to do with the problem?

No doubt about it, especially given the fact that the only
available
Restore Points were created after you'd last run CCleaner and/or
Registry
Mechanic.

Have you purchased Registry Mechanic? Do you have backups of the
changes
made by Registry Mechanic?

Do you ever use the "Registry Integrity" component of CCleaner? Do
you
maintain backs of the changes being made here?

If you think your Registry needs to be "cleaned" or "repaired" and
you
need
another whack with a cluestick, read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099
and draw your own conclusions.

Thanks,

What Norton application is installed? What Norton application

My System Restore only restores to the last 2 days, June 05-06
that
is.
Any
date before that, even though highlited, it doesn't go through.
The
system
goes through the whole procedure and at the end I get the
message:
"Restoration Incomplete". Your computer cannot be restored
to...the
point
I
had chosen. I tried with about 10 different points and got the
same
thing.

I use Ccleaner, and Registry Mechanic just about every day
except
for
the
last 2 days. could that have something to do with the problem?

I went to Windows Help and Support and that was a waste of time.
I'd
appreciate any suggestions. I use Windows XP/SP3.

Thanks,
Edith
