System Restore Crashed on me!

boy do i need some help! A few days ago, i had a minor problem with the my
microphone which wasn't there a while ago. So i used system restore to try
to fix it. I ended up having to use system restore several times to get to a
point where everything was working but during the last restore operation, my
computer either froze or i thought it froze but i ended up turning it off.
When i turned my computer back on, many things didn't work but i still have
limited functionality. Bottom line? I would have used system restore by now
to fix the problem but since it froze during the last restore operation,
system restore won't start how it should. I try to open it but only get a
white screen that never finishes loading. Any help whatsoever would be
greatly appreciated because i've tried everything i know. And the system
restore service is already running in the background. I bought this computer
on ebay a year ago and don't have the restore disks so those aren't an option
either. Sounds like a fun problem huh? Please help me! Thanks

Without a xp cd youre limited,however,at start up,tap the F8 key,select
safe mode, enter as administrator,if that doesnt work select with cmd prompt.
Once in xp,go to run, type:cmd In cmd type:CHKDSK C: /R Agree to restart,
then type:EXIT Restart computer, use the same cmd if you enter in cmd. Also,
you ought to limit restore to a restore point or two, limit the use,as many
users
do,restore is turned off,fix the problem(s) as they come.....

See MVP Bert Kinney's System Restore pages:
http://bertk.mvps.org/index.html

You will probably have to turn off System Restore completely, reboot
the computer, and then turn System Restore back on again. This will
wipe out all of your existing System Restore data. Once the System
Restore data becomes damaged or corrupt there is no way to fix the
problem and recover the existing restore points.

Good luck

When did activation become a part of your problem?

I don't see any mention of activation issues in your previous message.

If you cannot activate over the Internet then you can try doing a
manual activation by telephone. The activation window should give you
the telephone number(s) for your specific location.

If you can access the activation Internet site but it still prompts
you to activate it then try repairing the registry entries for the
..DLL files used by activation:

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Launch activation manually:
%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A

Good luck
