I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT MY SYSREG WAS MISSING AND OR
CORRUPT.I COULDN'T ACCESS MY INTERNET AS MY MODEM HAD BEEN REMOVED,SO I
CHECKED MY DEVICE MANAGER AND LO THERE WAS NOTHING IN IT. IS IT POSSIBLE TO
REPLACE THE SYSREG AND NOT LOSE ALL THE DATA ON THE HARD DISK??
I REPLACED THE HARD DISK WITH A NEW ONE AND RELOADED MY SYSTEM AND ALL THGE
UPDATES, SO I COULD GET HERE.
I REALLY NEED TO GET THE WORK FILES OFF THE OLD DISK, I HAVE IT READY TO
HOOK BACK UP (AS A SLAVE), BUT I HESITATE TO DO SO UNTIL I KNOW I AM NOT
GOING TO BLOW UP EVERYTHING, CAN ANYONE BE OF ASSISTANCE OUT HERE??
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME IN READING THIS, ANXIOUSLY AWAITING A REPLY. ROGER

Put your old drive back in your computer and restore the system
registry using the System Restore tool.

HTH,

Dear John,
i tried that approach and it gave me only the 2 previous days( there were no
alternative months at all) to restore to and they would not restore it.
I am at a loss on this particular subject, I have had to use the system
restore previously and it was a snap, this is a real head scratcher.
Is there any other option to this, I have never used the file and settings
transfer, is it possible and or wise to reconnect my hard disk as a slave and
use the files and settings transfer to rertrieve my programs and files from
the bum drive without causing more problems ( never used the files and
settings transfer wizard either,)thank you for your time in this matter

Pleas excuse my ignorance , as I have never been to this site. I have tried
to use the conventional restore fix, but my computer only gave me the
previous 2 days to pick from and they would not perform ( there were no
previous months available). I am un familiar with the Files and Settings
Wizard, is it possible to reconnect my bad drive as a slave and transfer the
Programs and files that I need to save without causing more problems??Thank
you for your time in this matter..Roger61554

Hi,

There are several reasons this may occur. Let's take a look at Event
Viewer for any System Restore logs that may have been created recently
that may help us diagnosing the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?
