hard drive headache

phatcat

i have xp/sp2 on my pc and it crashed one day while i was playing a game and
my media player at the same time. when i rebooted i got a message saying
"invalid boot disk". i got the boot disks from microsoft and ran them from my
floppy drive, but when i get ready to recover xp or reinstall it, it tells me
no hard drive is found. is there a way i can fix this error without having to
replace my hard drive???

db

if you can boot to
the "repair / recovery
console" and get
to the disk prompt,

then you can run
the following commands>:

chkdsk /p
fixboot

then exit and try
rebooting normally.
