System recovery kept all applications!!

Hope some can help me out.

I did a system recovery because my computer's been acting up (as in realllly
slow) for a while. First of all after the SR it wouldnt go to my desktop. It
just went to a blue window and stayed there. So i had to turn of the computer
and do another SR. After this it went to the desktop but lo and behold all my
data files are gone but all my applications are still there? I thought it was
supposed to be the opposite. Also although it deleted all my files my C drive
is showing that it only has 19 out of 51.6 GB. How is that possible? Also in
documents and settings there are different folders for the different times i
did the SR. I am obvisouly a newbie and am very lost. Hope someone knows what
the problem is. THANKS :)

i use a prog called erunt and has got me out of several problems , it makes
an exact copy of the registry every day you boot up. it has a defrag an
replace registry. address is
-- http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt -- to find it after
install go to C: /windows/erdnt , an open auto backup an pick a date

Hi,

When you say "system recovery" are you referring to System Restore that
shipped with Windows, Start Button - All Programs - Accessories - System
Tools - System Restore?

If you used System Restore, how far back in time was the system restored?
