System password

Re-Install Issues

I recently reset my computer because I forgot my logon
password, and I wanted to upgrade to WIN98 ME anyways. But
now when it starts up it gives me two options, F1 for IBM
BIOS Setup Utility and F12 to choose temporary boot
device. However, no matter which I choose, it takes me to
the system password, which I can't remember. Is there
anyway to reformat, install an OS, or bypass this somehow?
Or possibly reset the system password? Unless I remember
the password, there's not much more I can do. PLease help
me.

Sounds like you setup a bios boot password.
if you have the mother board manual, look for the jumpers
to set to wipe out the password, if you don't have them,
remnove the mb battery, it also wipes the password.
once in the Bios remove the setting for boot up password.

Windows ME is not a secure system you can hit enter or
cancel to bypass the logon password box.

only W2k or XP are secure, and your not able to bypass the
secure logon..

You can reset the BIOS password. The settings are available
on Mother Board or you may take help of your Hardware
vendor.
