system.mdw file causing me a lot of grief

Hello,

I have a database that will not open with Office 2003 unless I use a
system.mdw file from Office 2000. Now please understand that all I'm using is
a standard default system.mdw file from Office 2000, no security has been set
up. Why is this happening? When everyone was using Office 2000 no one was
prompted to login; now that we have upgraded to 2003 everyone receives a
message "You do not have the necassary permissions..." To work around this I
open Access 2003; join the workgrp by pointing to the default Office 2000
system.mdw file; then open the database. I don't want to have to do this. I
would like to be able to freely distribute this database so that anyone using
Office 2003 can open the database without having to muck with the security.

Does anyone have a suggestion to make this database available to Office 2003
users?

Thanks,
Lou

This is not related to versions although it appears that way to you. If
opening a database (whatever version) while joined to a pristine system.mdw
causes the error 'You do not have the necessary permissions...' then it
means only one thing.

That database has been secured. The system.mdw that you must join is infact
the workgroup file that was used to secure it.

Hi Joan,

I have solved the problem... and you are correct... there was a change made
to the security; chances are someone had made the change while poking around,
as the security change made no sense at all.

I'm surprised that a pristine system.mdw from Office2000 allowed me to open
the database in the first place. Anyway... I have reset the security and
everyone has access. no matter what version of office they have.

Thanks for your response.
