System locks up when I try to save or move a file

When I try to do a "save as" or move a file, the system locks up and does not
respond. The same thing happens when I try to do an "insert file" from Office
Document Imaging. Everything else seems to work fine. I've run SpySweep and
McAfee VirusScan. (BTW - I recently installed a MS download that was supposed
to speed up system shutdown.) Can someone help?
