System Lock-up on adding sound file

When trying to add a sound file from any source the whole
system freezes.

Latest drivers + all updates added.
Hi-end system P4, 1.5 gb ram, ATI 9600 graphics, Audigy sc.
120gb Hd etc.

No other problems with other software.

Any advice appreciated.

Did this just start, or has it never worked?

Have you tried rebooting?

Have you installed anything new recently? That includes software, security
patches, etc.

And also, Tony, what format of sound file? WAV, MP3, MIDI? All of them?
