System Information freezes when refreshing

I was asked to save my system information file in order to upload it for
diagnostic purposes.

In the Run box, I entered msinfo32.exe, clicked on File>Save. Made sure it
was an .nfo file and saved to Desktop.

A dialogue box appeared "Refreshing System Information", however, it never
completed. Task Manager tells me the (2 programmes, one showing a
query/question mark and one that looks like a system file) are Not
Responding.

If I try to open the file saved to Desktop, I am told "System Information
cannot open this NFO file. It may be corrupted or an unrecognised version".

Have now tried several times to save the file but with the same error.

It appears that I have 2 options when it comes to saving System Info as an
..NFO file.

In the drop down menu I have:

System Information File (*.NFO)

Version 5.0/6.0 System Information File (*.NFO)

Selecting the latter allows me to save and open the file.

However, when trying to upload it to Windows Live Solution Centre, it tells
me that "An error occurred" and I thought I'd cracked it!

File was too big to upload, had to compress it.

Still puzzled as to why I have the two options to save an *nfo file.

If I only have Version 5.0/6.0.... why is the other one showing as an
option?
