Today, when I clicked on the accessory "System Information", the program
started as usual but took a long time to give the Select sub-category
instruction. When I selected a sub-category, there was no information there.
This situation repeated itself with every category. I am assuming that
something has corrupted the program. Is there a solution to correct this?

dear Rich, Thanx for your rapid response. I went to the site you specified
and found a link to download a repair. When I ran the program it gave me a
notepad window with what appeared to be a list of registry entries. Am I
supposed to make these entries into the registry? Are there any particular
instructions I should follow in order to make these entries? Where in the
registry should I type these entries? Sorry about the many questions, but at
this point I am very nearly in over my head.
Best regards

You have to highlight the text and copy to Notepad or Wordpad. Then save
to MyDocuments and name the file sysinfo.reg. Then go to MyDocuments and
open the file sysinfo.reg
that you just saved. It will ask if you want to enter the info in the
Registry. Click on yes. That's it.

Rich, Sorry about the delay in responding, but the nature of my job can
sometimes delay me accessing my computer for days at a time. I have done as
instructed but the fix still opens with notepad. It does not ask me if I want
to enter the information into registry. When I right click the file, there is
an function that says "merge", would this be the action to take? Do I need to
restart my computer after to load the changes?

best regards

Do not copy anything to Notepad.

Go to Kelly's site.

Download and save the msinforestore.reg file.

Right-click on that file and "Merge"

Does "no information" mean an empty white display box where you expect
there to be information?

Do you ever see a "Refreshing System Information" message?

Has information been there in the past?

Thanx Gord and sorry about the delay. I tried the merge thing with no change
in results. SI Accessory is still not working

Thanx for your interest Jose,

In answer to your questions:

By "no information" I meant the box is blank.

Yes, everytime I start the program it displays that message. Then it states
that I should select a category. They are all blank.

Yes, the program did display information before. I had not used it for some
time, but when asked by a program support team to provide some information
about my system, I discovered that the program no longer worked.

As you have probably noted, I have tried the Kelly fix with no result. Is
tere someting else that you could suggest?

Best regards.

If references to Kelly's page would be preceded by a sentence that
said to read the top of Kelly's page first for instructions then apply
the suggestion, there would be fewer message that say "I tried Kelly's
fix and it didn't work".

Unfortunately, there is no magic that happens when going to the page,
clicking #221 and waiting for something good to happen.

Not everyone knows what a registry file or VB script is and what to do
with it.

Reduce the chances of malicious software by running some scans.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

These can be uninstalled later if desired.

Reregister the msinfo32.dll as follows:

Click, Start, Run and in the box copy/paste or enter the following -
including the
quotes:

regsvr32 "C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\msinfo.dll"

Click OK and wait for a message indicating success.

Try msinfo32 in the Start, Run box or from your other menus now.

Jose,

Thank you for your quick response. I downloaded the two program you
recommended, installed them and attempted to run them both. The Malwarebytes
program crashed my computer once in quick mode and twice in full mode. I
uninstalled it. The Super Antispyware program is installed and run
successfully and it picked up some tracking cookies.
I then ran the regsvr32 routine and after that attempted to run msinfo from
the Start / run box and from the start menu, neither with any success.
Is there a plan B?

Best regards

If Malwarebytes crashed, your system is being controlled by the malware,
and it's crashing Malwarebytes.

To get control, burn BitDefender, or another program listed at the link
below, to a CD (using a working machine) and test the infected machine
with it. BitDefender also has a Rootkit checker on the Linux Desktop;
run it if you think that's the problem:

http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/

Download the executable rather than the .iso image, if one is
available.. it prompts you to insert a CD and burns the file, no problem.

Then run these:

Malwarebytes© Corporation
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe

SuperAntispyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html
