System Idle Processes?

Hello

While watching Task Manager process list, there is always an item listed
called "System Idle Process". This item shows 99 in CPU column and my system
also lagging. Although most of the times System was not actually IDLE

Could you please explain What is System Idle process in Windows 2000

It is just an entry to display the idle CPU percentage. 99% CPU would mean that only 1% of the CPU is
being used by other processes.

Break out a dictionary and look up the word "idle," sometime. ;-}
The "System Idle Process" metric is the amount/percentage of time that
your CPU has nothing to do. A reading of 98-99% is generally
considered a good thing, and readings above 90% are normal. Think of
it like a car's engine idling in your driveway before you place the
car in gear.

Otherwise I thought its a kind of process (a lengthy one) who needs 99% of
CPU resources and always works when system is IDLE.
