System Hangs/Freezes when account switching

I am using Windows XP/SP2.

I have 2 accounts, one that is administrative and one that is a limited
'user' account.

Anytime I have one account open, and I try to switch to another user with
the previous account still active, during startup of the second account my
system hangs and does not proceed to load. The only time Windows does not
freeze is when I log off my account, and then precede to startup the user
account.

I have tried to do a clean boot via Microsoft’s program and my system still
has the same issue during the account switches, so I’m guessing it’s not from
third party software that is taking up system resources.

I formatted Windows a few day's back, and I had this problem both in the
past and it is now back, so if it was a faulty Windows file I’m guessing the
format should have taken care of that...

Any help is much appreciated!

You wouldn't happen to be using the latest version of Zone Alarms, would
you? I had the same setup as you have described and I had just recently
downloaded the latest version of ZA. It was causing the same thing as you
described to happen when switching between the two accounts. The only way I
could resolve it was to shut off the computer at on/off button (I don't like
to do that). I uninstalled this version and went and downloaded an older
version and fixed the problem. Just a thought . . .

No I dont have zone alarm, but I do have Norton Antivirus 2006 and i'm
wondering if it may be the problem, have you heard of any issues regarding to
it?

Until a couple of weeks ago I had Norton Internet Security 2005 and when it
expired I got the Zone Alarms. I did not have any problems with switching
the accounts / freezing up when I had the Norton. I don't know what might
be causing your problem, but I thought it might be worth passing the info on
about my experience with Zone Alarms since our problems were identical. You
might try checking with Norton to see if anyone else has a similar problem
or they may have a solution. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
