system freezes when fan runs

I am running windows XP professional. All things seem to
work normally until the fan starts running constatly and
at a higher than normal pitch. When this happens, my
system slows almost to the point of freezing.

Replace the fan,the bearings are probably no good.A new
fan runs about 7.00
