After installing new OS, and webroot spy sweeper, I bought Norton
anti-virus, and internet security. Now my system freezes at will; during
game play, and just simply typing. What could be the cause of this? Any
tweaks to apply. Help much appreciated.Virgo

Carey, right away my disk clean up freezes. This happened once before, but I
forgot the fix in the registry. Help me with step one , please.

I got the clean disk to work, and did everything you said. It seems to be
freezing less frequently, and is a shorter freeze time, however, it is still
freezing(as I type right now). Any other things to try? Thank you.

How much RAM is installed in your PC?

Do you have the latest Windows XP compatible hardware drivers installed?

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings
and uncheck "Show Shadows under Menus"
and click APPLY.

Carey, I have a hp520n with 512MB of RAM.It is a celeron 1300MHz, 1.30GH. I
unchecked the remove shadows under windows, and still freezing. Anything
else? This never happened to me before CompUSA installed a new OS, ( I got
a virus), and they installed Webroot spy sweeper, and I installed Norton.
After I got it back, it started freezing, and I took it apart and cleaned
it, (UGH< it was nasty dirty). But still freezing. I appreciate you trying
to help me. It's not dire, but very annoying, and I know it is not running
at it's optimal capabilities. Thank you.

Carey or anyone else who can help,
I'm experiencing random freezing of XP, so in an effort to fix the freezing I followed your suggestion to uncheck "Show Shadows under Menus". When I did this an unusual "message box" appeared asking me to wait, next thing my whole windows "look" was changed (sorry I don't know the correct terminology). Previously XP had a Win98 look to it, now it has changed all the windows so that they have a thick light blue colour title bar and blue edges. The START button has chaged look and colout to dark green and the START taskbar is solit light blue colour.
I tried re-checking "Show Shadows under Menus" but the XP look does not revert to how I had it.
What can I do to get XP back how I had it.
I though I might be able to use the System Restore but I'm not sure if it covers the look of XP ?

Thanks
