Mouse freeze

We have 3 computers, all running WINDOWS XP. Recently we started having
trouble with the mouse freezing. In one computer (hp pavilion) the mouse
kind of sticks for a second and the cursor appears at a different place. On
another computer, you have to click the mouse several times to get the job
done; open files or move game pieces. On the third computer we replaced the
mouse with one using a USB port instead of PS2. We use Norton System Works
and Webroot Spy Sweepers. I have tried everything to fix but out of ideas.

Sometimes a memory defrag helps. There are some freewares avail. Also,
sometimes if you simply open there properties page and make a slight change,
like pointer styles, it seems to reset the driver. But other than this I
simply think you might be a little slow because of the resources that are
being used by other processes taking precedence over the mouse processes....

(Psst: sometimes having more ram helps too.....but don't mention this out
load, i always get lots of feedback and blah, blah blahs....)

here is the site for the one i use:

http://www.amsn.ro/

however, i wouldn't recommend to let it launch and run automatically at
windows startup. Instead, run it as needed from the desktop then press
quit. If you see improve performance because of the memory optimization,
then the memory and the processes using it all up should be researched....

My computer already has a defrag program. Plus Norton System Works has one
too. Do I really need another?

I just discovered that my husbands computer is slightly different. His mouse
moves in a jerky motion. But the main problem is that you have to click the
buttons several times to get it to work. Also, I need to point out that his
mouse and keyboard are wireless and they have a Y connection at the computer
plug. It is a microsoft.

Having an extra memory defrag wouldn't hurt. But keep in mind to always
manually run them (any and all memory defraggers/optimizers) instead of
letting them to start automatically.

As mentioned, sometimes the cpu gets busied out by loaded software. And
there could be programs that are automatically starting up but don't have to
be since they can be manually started via the desktop when needed.

I'm suggesting that you could probably make more memory available and lower
the burden the cpu has so that it can apply some of the processing power to
the mouse. As mentioned, sometimes having more ram helps. But you can also
reduce your current ram consumption by disabling unneeded processes. Double
check your machines startups by going to start, run and typing in msconfig.
Then go to the startup tab and disable anything that you really don't need
to run automatically. Some examples are, memory defrags, memory managers, 2
or more antiviruls, updaters, registration'ers, etc.... As you can see,
these programs can take up memory and processor power so I think you get the
idea here. However, be careful not to disable anything like your wireless
mouses, etc.. because programs like these have to run when windows starts.
When you reboot, you may see a difference. If you make a mistake you can
simply enable the items back as you see fit.....

Here is a freeware that can also modify your msconfig for you. It will give
you details that the msconfig dialog window would not provide.... I works
pretty good for me, but I use others that are much more elaborate. Instll
it on your machines and browse through the tabs to get a feel for it. You
may indeed find things that are cluttering your memory and cpu power....

I have the same problem after updating my windows xp 2 weeks ago. Is there any
suggestion to solve this problem I see many have and don't understand why it
is so.

I use a Trust mouse and have also installed the drivers following the mouse.
But the problem is now and then very frustratig when the mouse freeze and pop
up another place or just stay so for some seconds.

I would appreciate a solution or what to try out.

Thanks in advance
