System folder has wrong name

New computer with xp home. Wrong name was put in at dealers upon
activation. Now the system folder under "Documents and Settings"
contains an all users folder and a folder with the wrong name where all
information is stored. Tried the change name utility but it only
changed the "registerd owner" information. Any help would be
appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, what you want to do is to create a new User
Profile with a different name. First of all, if it's a brand new computer
and you haven't yet saved anything in My Documents etc., just go to Control
Panel > User Accounts and create a new profile, then delete the old one.

If, however, you've used the old profile a while, then merely create the
new one and copy the info from the old one. Easier way:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dupprofile.htm or slightly more complicated way:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/en-us In either case, you will have
to do the copying from a user other than the user whose profile you are
copying files to or from. The simplest one to use is the built-in
adminstrator account. In XP Home you can access this account only if you
start in Safe Mode.

To start in Safe Mode, and start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see ANY
thing flash by on the screen (MS phrases it "As your computer restarts but
before Windows launches, press F8. ... If Windows launches before you can
choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again.") If you can't
get the F8 method to work, you can use msconfig instead. See

Create a new profile with the name you want, copy the data from the old
to the new, then when it's verified the new one works, delete the old.

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP, you can use
Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.

The user profile folders (C:\Documents and Settings\Username)
_cannot_ be renamed, even if the associated user account has been.
So, your best course of action would be to log on using the built-in
Administrator account, create a new user account, with the username
desired. You can then delete the old user account(s).
