system file ckecker

it is not working. when i execute this file i does't get any effect. the same
file protection dialog comes frequently.
please say me a remidy
 
Are you using the Cmd/DOS prompt? Click on start, all programs, accessories,
command prompt, ie..C:\ sfc /? or c:\ sfc /scannow...? What does the
protection dialog say..?

None of that is correct.

System File Checker (sfc.exe) can be run from a command prompt or
from Start | Run.

Click Start | Click Run | Type or paste: sfc /scannow | Click OK

If one has an XP CD, it should be loaded into a CD drive before typing the
command above.

The /scannow switch scans all protected system files immediately.

Typing sfc /? or sfc help into a command prompt will get sfc help.
