Hi Stan,

System File Checker (Start/Run/CMD/SFC /Scannow)

/SCANNOW
Scans all protected system files immediately.
/SCANONCE
Scans all protected system files at the next boot.
/SCANBOOT
Scans all protected system files at every boot.
/REVERT
Windows XP: Return to default settings.

Sfc sets the following registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SFCScan

Creates a log here:

Start/Run/Msinfo32/Tools/File Signature Verification Utility. Or go to
Start/Run and type in: sigverif. Modify your settings under Advanced. When
the scan is done, go back to Advanced/Logging/View Log.

Another tool for both Current and Older Windows Files: Go to Start/Run and
type in: verifier

Modify the registry for verifier.exe

A person on another board was having trouble with a DLL and asked where to
download it from. That made me wonder if that DLL was on the XP CD which
intern made me ask if XP can extract one file like SFC in Win 98.

I've been reading all the links that were provided; interesting stuff!

Thanks Again.
