System dead?

Just finished building a new system.
New ASUS MB, new HD, new GeForce 7300GT video, etc.
All powered up fine.
Installed XP, updates, etc.
Ran for about 24 hours. Checked it and now, it gives no video signal
and the HD light on the case stays lite. Hard power off and then back
on doesn't help.
Have full power however, since all fans and PS are clearly up and
running.
Whadda ya think has happened??
Any help would be appreciated. I'm bummed thinking about all the hours
I spent building and loading this box.
Thanks.

This could be one of two things: a bad monitor or a bad video card.
If your motherboard has onboard video, remove the video card and use
the onboard video. If the video shows up on the monitor, then you
have a good motherboard and monitor. Next, try an older video card.
If that card works, then I'd say that you have a bad 7300 GT. These
are basic troubleshooting measures.

Good luck.

Either the power supply unit or the motherboard failed. (Yes, the PSU could
have failed even though you have LED's shining.) The easiest test is to
replace the PSU with a known working one and see if that fixes it. If not,
you most likely need a new motherboard.

Thanks.

I had a similar thing happen with my last ASUS build, worked fine for a
while then refused to boot, but the HD LED lit all the time.

It would work if I removed one of the IDE drives, I had two - a dvd burner
and CD drive. Either connected = fine, both = no go
Hard drive was SATA by the way.

Finally cured it by flashing the BIOS to the latest version.

Thanks to all who offered assistance.
I found the problem.
Doh!
I took a great deal of pictures while I was building the system.
Anyway, upon reviewing one of the photos I noticed that I had my 2x1GB
DDR2 sticks SIDE-BY-SIDE.
They should have been placed, one in channel 'A' and one in channel
'B' - Filled slot, empty slot, filled slot, empty slot.
Once I placed them into their appropriate slots, the system got all
better! :)
Box has been running fine now for 6 days.
My bad. This is what happens when you are building machines at 3am.
Thanks again.
