When I select Run and enter msconfig all I receive is a
C;\Windows\Msconfig folder containing a folder titled
backups. I had recently gone from xp down to ME and now
have just reinstalled XP... msconfig was working fine a
few days ago in ME. I'm wondered if xp was installed with
msconfig set in a selective startup mode (I think it was)
could that have something to do with it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like you're opening a folder called msconfig, not executing
msconfig.exe. Do a search for that file name on your hard drive and see if
you can double click it.

A folder named "msconfig" is somewhere in the path. Search for "All Files
and Folders" (making sure that you can see hidden and system files) named
"msconfig". Rename it (it stores the backups for . Also, msconfig.exe
should be found in C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries. If it isn't then
extract it from msconfig.ex_ from the WXP setup disk. If it is and you
still can't start it from the Run dialog, just create a shortcut to it.
