"system cannot find the file specified" error when attempting toinstall security update

S Claus

Hi all

(this is about Windows XP SP3)

I get the "system cannot find the file specified" error when
attempting to install MS security updates such as:
KB923561
KB952004
KB956572
KB959426
KB960803
KB961373
KB963027

None of the updates are successful because of this error.

I have checked the resolutions provided on these pages but it has not
solved this issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us
and
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=17&ln=en&IsMu=False

(The second one above is about deleting the contents of the folder C:
\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore)

Any advise on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Were the updates downloaded Automatically or manually ?

Open the WindowsUpdate.log located in WINDOWS.
Scroll all the way to the bottom for the most recent entries.
Work your way back up the log until you see a FATAL and/or WARNING
message. FATAL entries indicate updating failure.

Please post the section of the log where these entries are found.
EX:
