The computer keeps telling me to increase the virtual memory size from 256MB,
it says recommended is 766MB and I have 5031MB available. When I increase it
in the custom box to intial: 700MB, max:800MB, and restart the computer as
instructed, I log into my windows account, and again a message pops up
telling me paging file needs to be increased! Go back into the options, and
the value has not increased, still stuck at 256MB! PLEASE HELP!!!
Running on windows XP home
Thanks

i tried it to!
Had to press "Set" to save changes. Then said had to reboot to save.

What does it say for "Min allowed", Recommended", and "currently Allocated"?

Ok, I forgot to mention in the original post, that I did press set. I have
followed numerous methods by microsoft and third pary, with no avail. Getting
very frustrated, currently runnig with no paging.

I am having the same problem, but slightly different. After resetting
a bigger virtual memory and reboot, the new settings are indicated.
However, the performance still lags and I keep getting the Windows XP
prompt that I need to enlarge the virtual memory. I have the min and
max set at 1000 mb, far more than is recommended. There must be some
other setting that needs to be changed???

Thanks for your help, but I am using a dell inspiron 8600 (notebook) with no
external drive, so the only drive available for paging is the one with
windows installed on it. Was thinking of increasing the amount of RAM
available so I could do without paging alltogether, but this is proving to be
an expensive option! So.... please, if anyone can, provide me with an option
that is viable under a student's budget, that will save the day!

Thanks for your help
