System apps odd behavior

George Thomas

I've just installed a Win2K Pro upgrade (clean install)
from Win98SE on one machine and it's exhibiting a behavior
that I don't know how to fix.

When I run a system app such as MEM.EXE, it runs then
immediately disappears from the screen so there's no time
to read it. Same thing with others such as CHKDSK.EXE.

Is there a setting I can change to stop this?

Thanks,

George Thomas

Create a batch file in Notepad with the PAUSE command as
the last line, e.g. for MEM:

MEM
PAUSE

Save the file (use whatever name you want, but give it a .BAT
extension), then create a shortcut to the batch file on your
desktop or Start List.

how about typing, CMD /K MEM
what do you get then
how about Win+R > CMD /K CHKDSK /V
how about Start >Run... >"type" CMD /K CHKDSK /R/F (you will need to Restart after
you answer"Y" for Yes to get it to run and it takes quite a while)
When you have a command what happens when you "type" Alt+enter (toggles)

good computing,
