system 32

for some time, when i would start up my computer, the folder system 32 would pop up. i didn't think much of it, but eventually i became annoyed by it, so i tried to find out what the problem was. when i virus scanned my computer, it said that the file named system32.exe was a virus, and that it could not delete it. i didn't want a virus on my computer, so i decided to delete it. now whenever i start up my computer, another window pops up saying "cannot find system32.exe," and when i click ok, the folder system 32 again pops up. does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do about this problem

Greetings --

The System32.exe file *is* a virus; it's certainly not a valid
WinXP system file. You don't want that file. Pay particular attention
to _all_ of the removal instructions:

W32.Kwbot.C.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.kwbot.c.worm.html

Additionally, MS-MVP Doug Knox has kindly scripted a tool that
should help:

you have to have system 32, but you need to click and drag all spyware/adware components into your virus protector.......all banner ads, spyware, etc, go thru system 32, but you have to have it

Deleting that one file may not be enough. You will have to scan your hard drive for Virus's and use this to remove it. Then see what happens. You may have lost some file do the the virus and more drastic measures may have to be applied. Hope this helps.
