System 32 Folder 1024-virus

I keep receiving a message from my antivirus software (AOL) which says that a
virus has been cleaned and removed from my PC. It is in "System 32 Folder
1024." This virus keeps reappearing, even when I am not on the web. This has
happened at least 10 times in the last day or so. Any suggestions?

Update your anti-virus software and run a full system scan. You might need
to start in Safe Mode to run your anti-virus software.

Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves in areas Windows
protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those applications
access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware.

There should not be a folder named 1024 in
C:\WINDOWS\system32

You most likely have a 1033 folder. 1033 is US English.

Or you may have one of these...
English (US) 1033
English (UK) 2057
English (Canada) 4105
English (New Zealand) 5129
English (Australia) 3081
English (Ireland) 6153
English (South Africa) 7177

I don't know about AOLs anti-virus program you use now but make sure it is
updated. There are several programs you can try- a number are free. Why not
uninstall the one you currently use and install a different one- there are
many good ones which may work. And have you tried spyware
protection/scanning? Anti virus programs don't find spyware and 1024 seems
to appear in some spyware lists.

The Anti-Virus programs given free from ones ISP like AOL are crap.
I cleaned a friends computer (ME) a few months back, he too was using AOL's
software fully updated and a scan showed it to be virus free, I replaced it
with NOD32 the definitions for NOD where "27 months out of date" since we
didn't have an internet connection at the time and it found 5 infections.

I just thought I would pass this along <eg>

Essentially there is nothing in the file. There is a folder 1024. It is still
there. I ran anti-virus software from an independent free source online, but
that didn't find any viruses. I also ran a virus scan in safe mode, and that
didn't find anything either. For whatever reason, the virus now seems to be
gone. But that folder is still there and it is empty.

So, either delete the 1024 folder or ignore it. ;-)
