Sysprep and Defaulting the theme to Classic

Now that I've got the whole Volume Licensing deal down, I find myself
spending a lot of time getting laptops back to the classic mode after
imaging a syspreped laptop.

I found an interesting article on using Group Policies to change the default
theme at:

http://www.wown.info/j_helmig/winxpgpe.htm

however, this only seemed to work on the local machine (with some issues at
that). Once I put the machine into our older NT Based domain, the default
theme reverted back to Luna.

So, the question is: Is there a way using Sysprep to change the default
theme, or do you have to use either Group Policies, or just do it manually
on a case by case basis?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Checkout http://unattended.msfn.org, my unattended CD defaults to classic theme although at the moment I can't remember how I did it

If you set the them to what you want, then copy the administrator's profile
to the default user profile before you run sysprep, you get the results you
want.

By the "default user profile" to you mean the "All Users" directory under
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users ?

Never mind. "Default user" is hidden by default. Once you show/unhide all
files, the directory appears.

I found the default user area after unhiding. Everyfile copies over from my
saved profile, except NTUSER.DAT which I assume won't copy because it's in
use in the default user area.

Because of this, after creating a new user, it still came up with the XP
Luna default screen rather than my saved classic screen.

Is the secret getting the ntuser file to copy? Please advise.

You probably won't be able to copy the NTUSER.DAT from Admin, because that
file seems to always be in use, even if you're in another account with admin
privs.

Instead create the other account, customize it to your liking and then copy
that profile to Default User. I just got it to work both on the local
machine and after I put it in the domain.
