Sysprep 2.0 Windows XP

It took me a lot of reading, and two trial runs to figure out how to
use Sysprep 2.0 for Windows XP.

Leave it to MS to confuse something that was perfect. I was used to
the Windows 2000 version of Sysprep, as most of you probably were so
this was frustrating!

Sysprep 2.0 for Windows XP requires an additional checkbox for it to
work correctly (just like W2000).

For those who have done this before you may be missing this box:

Run Sysprep with and use "use mini setup" option and RESEAL.

This should take care of it.

For those who have never done it before, here is a freebe:

Download Sysprep from Microsoft.com here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3d-507b-4095-9d9d-0a195f7b5f69&DisplayLang=en

Search for this if this dynamic url breaks:
"Windows XP Service Pack 1 Deployment Tools"

Now make a folder in the root of your c drive named sysprep.

Yes - it's that simple.

Now EXTRACT the cab file you just downloaded from MS into the Sysprep
folder.
It should be about 11-12 files in there. To extract the contents of
the cab file, double click on the file and drag the contents into the
c:\sysprep folder.

OK here is the tricky part for most people…

Copy the contents of this text into a file named sysprep.inf OR create
your own by using setupmgr.exe (Setup Manager) provided in the cab
file.

Here is an example of a sample a sysprep.inf file.

Start of file:
(copy everything after these parenthesis)

;SetupMgrTag
[Unattended]
OemSkipEula=Yes
TargetPath=\WINDOWS

[GuiUnattended]
AdminPassword="DONTLEAVETHISBLANK"
EncryptedAdminPassword=NO
OEMSkipRegional=1
TimeZone=4
OemSkipWelcome=1

[UserData]
ProductKey=00000-00000-00000-00000-00000
FullName="YOUR COMPANY NAME"
OrgName="YOUR COMPANY NAME"
ComputerName=YOURIMAGE

[RegionalSettings]
LanguageGroup=1
Language=00000409

[Identification]
JoinWorkgroup=YOURWORKGROUP

[Networking]
InstallDefaultComponents=Yes

[Branding]
BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes

[Proxy]
Proxy_Enable=0
Use_Same_Proxy=0

(End copy here)

So again, copy the text into a notepad file and save as:
sysprep.inf in the c:\sysprep folder
!!! Make sure you change:!!!
Save as type: "All files"
Encoding: "ASCI"
When you look at the file it should have a yellow cog in it. You may
have to change your folder options to display file extensions.

Congratulations - you are ready to go!

Double click on the sysprep.exe file.

Uncheck every box EXCEPT for USE MINI SETUP

Finally, click on the RESEAL button and change the dropdown box to
shutdown.

Click OK on the next screen about generating a new SID.

Now clone you computer. When it reboots you should see it do its
thing!

Good luck - this shouldn't be too hard for

i have to disagree - the documentation i found on this was very good and was
very simple to understand.
I used it to deploy over 600 machines
