Sysedit no longer runs

When I go to run and type "sysedit" an hourglass shows for a brief second
and the disappears. The program does not run. In the past, this always ran
the sysedit program with no problems. I rebooted the system and the results
are the same. Restoring the system to past setting does not help. As far as
I know, this is the only program having this problem but I may have not yet
tried all programs yet.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I have had similiar issues. I could not run regedit or
even task manager. It is probably a virus. If you do not
have any virus protection software get one quick or try
using a web based virus finder like the one at
trendmicro.com or symantec.com. Good luck, it took me
about 6 hours to get mine fixed.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't believe this is the problem this time,
I have been running McAfee and have been good at keeping updated dat files.
I also ran a complete scan and came up clean.

Also, I noticed that VISIO does the same thing, when I click on the program,
the hourglass shows for a second or two but then disappears and the program
never runs. I reinstalled VISIO and but problem remains.

SYSEDIT is not installed as part of Windows XP. However it may exist
on some computers that were upgraded from Windows 98.

The files that are processed by sysedit are not even used by Windows
XP so there is pretty much zero need for or value in having this
utility available.

What specific things were you wanting to do with sysedit in Windows
XP?

Hi Ron,

I occasionally use sysedit to look at the files to see if any newly
installed programs have loaded unneeded files.

I'm more concerned as to why VISIO no longer runs as it is a program I use a
lot.

Thanks

What version of Visio are you trying to use?
The current version(s) work okay with XP. I used to have Visio 2000
installed on this machine but it was removed some time ago.

What specific problems or error messages are you experiencing with
Visio?

Hi Ron

I'm using VISIO Ver 2.0. It's an old version but was working just fine
until about a week ago. I don't get any error messages at all, that's the
strange thing. The hourglass shows for a second or two then disappears...
nothing happens.

Thanks
