Sys monitor wont open?

I have a fairly new install of xp on this system. but one thing is puzzling
me. Usually with xp if i press control alt del it brings up the system
monitor. For some reason on my pc it wont do that. I've tried locating the
sys monitor .exe file but clicking on that has no effect windows says it cant
open it? I'mjust curious as to why this is happening without sys monitor i
cant see if all 4 cores of my procesosr are working plus other info that
could be useful. Is there anohter program thats reliable that would tell me
this info? Is it possible a virus has disabled my sys monitor? Any help most
welcome.

You can use Sysinternals "Process Explorer", for a snoop around.
If that won't run either, then I'd be concerned...

Note that some AV tools don't like Sysinternal programs (because they
access things that trigger the protection mechanisms of the AV). I
had my other computer running Kaspersky, lock up more than
once, with various Sysinternals programs.
