SyncToyLog.log

The "SyncToyData" folder is in my "RJA Sr Documents" folder which I backup
daily. In the "STD" folder is the "synctoylog.log" file. When I run SyncToy
to backup my "RJA Sr Doc" folder to an external hard-drive, the ".log" file
does not update. I get an error message saying the file is in use by another
program. What am I doing wrong or is something set-up wrong?

Other than that, SyncToy has cut down my data files back-up process from 3-4
hours each Saturday afternoon, using 12 CDs to less than 10 minutes at the
end of each day. Just using an external hard-dive rather than CDs was a
bressing. Using SyncToy is a double blessing--just what I was looking for.
Thank you!

I couldn't agree more with what RJA Sr wrote. SyncToy is a very useful
program -- thanks for creating it and giving it away free.

I see the same issue as RJA Sr where SyncToy cannot backup its own log file.
I assume this is happening because SyncToy has the log file open during its
backup process and, therefore, cannot make a copy of it. I see this with one
other file, as well. I use a program called Windates which keeps a calendar
file open in My Documents. When I do a SyncToy backup it cannot backup this
file as it is in use by Windates. I wish there was some way around this.

Other than that minor issue, I love SyncToy! Thanks again.

I see a similar problem. After Synctoy completes, I get an error message that
indicates that Synctoy cannot acces the SyncToyLog.log file. It does seem as
thought he file is updated???

It seems odd to me that only three of us are having this problem??

Can I move the default log directory, out of the path of the backup somehow?

Overall, it seems that if the bugs were removed this would be a good
product. Much simpler to use than XCOPY.

All,

While continuing to think there must be a solution ... I stumbled onto one ...

From the main screen:
1) Select "Change Options" (I don't know if the folder pair selection makes
a difference - but it appears not)
2) Select "Subfolders" and wait for Synctoy to find all folders
3) Find the "SyncToyData" directory (probably in "My Documents") and uncheck
the box - to exclude the directory from being backed up.
4) OK all the way out and ... bingo ... no conflict

Hope this helps.
