Synchronizing My MSN Hotmail Calendar With My PocketPC Calendar

N

Nathan Sokalski

I asked this question about a year ago, but the response message seems to
have been deleted from the newsgroups server since then. I want to be able
to synchronize my Calendar and Contacts between my HP iPAQ PocketPC h2215
and MSN Hotmail. I seem to remember being told the only ways to do this were
to download Outlook Connector, which I do not want because I want to do a
direct synchronization and do not want to install Outlook on my computer, or
to use a new service of Microsoft's located at www.outlooklive.com. I did
not bother to sign up for the service at that time because the
synchronization was not important enough at the time that I was going to
pay, I believe it was about $50 a year. However, I am now willing to pay
that much and want to start getting adjusted to the way the service works,
but the site seems to have changed so much since then that it doesn't even
seem like it has the same purpose (not to mention it redirects you to some
sort of Outlook Daily Tips page, so it actually takes you to a whole
different domain). So I am asking again a year later: Is there a way to
synchronize my Calendar and Contacts between my HP iPAQ PocketPC h2215 and
MSN Hotmail without installing Outlook on my computer? I appreciate any help
that anyone can give. Thanks.

If the old message had what you wanted then search for it using your

Thanks, I was remembering the URL slightly wrong, it is
http://outlooklive.msn.com/. Before I sign up, does anybody know of a place
where I can confirm that I will be able to use this to synchronize the
Calenders and Contacts between my MSN Hotmail and HP iPAQ PocketPC 2003
h2215? I did not notice anywhere on the page I was redirected to to sign up
(http://join.msn.com/?page=outlook/olc) that mentioned anything about
synchronization as a feature, so I want to double-check that I will be able
to use it for that before signing up. Thanks.

You'll need to use the hotmail account as your default (and set the hotmail
pst as the default delivery location) and sync it via outlook.

Via Outlook or Outlook Live? My goal is to synchronize my PocketPC and
Hotmail Calendars without installing any more applications on my computer,
and in one step. This is why I want to use Outlook Live. Thanks.

Oulook Live is Outlook by subscription. You would have Outlook on your PC and
the Outlook Connector installed for Hotmai/MSN mail.

Let me get this clear: I have to install Outlook and Outlook Connector on my
local computer even if I do use Outlook Live? Maybe I'm missing something
here, but what is the advantage of Outlook Live if I still have to install
Outlook on my local machine? Thanks.

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

Outlook live is a subscription to outlook with access to hotmail/msn
accounts (2 GB mailboxes) almost as if they were Exchange server. Activesync
syncs outlook items to the ipaq.

So you are saying that I will be able to synchronize my iPAQ and Hotmail
Calendar and Contacts using Outlook Live?

Yes. Activesync syncs the default message store - so as long as you set the
MSN account store as default, it will sync them to the ipaq. (It will be
automatically set as default if you only have one account set up or set it
up first).

OK, I have now signed up for Outlook Live and gone through the installation
process. However, during the installation process I unchecked everything
except Outlook Connector. Therefore, I only have Outlook 2002 on my
computer. How can I get back to the installation so that I can install
Outlook 2003 (I thought that it would tell me I needed 2003, but it didn't)?
I know it said I would recieve a CD in 5-10 days, but how can I get it
through a download? Thanks.

it'll work with 2002... go back to the member center and you should find a
link you can use to download it.
