synchronizing contents of two w2k

I have a desktop and a laptop computers, both w2000Pro Sp2.
What is the best way to keep contents of certain logical drives and/or
folders synchronized?
I mean that after synchronisation the wanted result is:
1. If same file but of defferent dates, the newest overwrites
2. Files missing on one computer are copied from the other and the the other
way round.

The two computers are networked via a router.

If you create a network share for your data folder on the desktop computer,
you should be able to use offline files on the laptop to manage this.

There are certain filetypes that can't be managed like this (Access MDB
files being one), but most common documents are fine.

Look up "offline files" in Windows 2000 help for an introduction.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Oli,

Look up "offline files" in Windows 2000 help and it returned 5 subjects all
dealing with reading emails ot newsgroups
What else should I try to look up?

By the way, in w98 was something called Briefcase, which I think, was for
this very job?

I would suggest that you look at a third party solution. Offline files &
Briefcase both have lots of potential problems! See www.centered.com -
SecondCopy 2000 will do what you want and is very reasonably priced - they
also have a fully functional 30-day eval.

Could you please name a couple of the the most serious problems?

One way? SC 2000 can do a full mirrored sync, including deletions, of
course....
Also from reading www.centered.com I had an impression that it offers
one-way backup, whereas I need two way backup - as I work on both
computers Is it possible with www.centered.com ?

Lost data, lost links to unavailable shares, inability to map network drives
w/offline files enabled when working via VPN...

I just don't bother with either Briefcase or Offline Files.
