synchronize slides and linked music

I am able to put music in the presentation (250mb presentation) with 6 music
files linked. I can adjust the slide transition to make the music synch with
the slides. My problem is that it seems to randomly slow down or speed up
which messes up the timing. Is there anything I can do?

powerpoint is notoriously bad at playing thing back in synch consistently.
