I created another user account yesterday and had no problem switching back &
forth yesterday. Today the only account that is there to open is the one I
created yesterday. My original user account is gone. Where did it go and how
do I get it back??!!
I'm not very knowlegable with computers but it seemed easy enough to create
a new account and now I wish I hadn't HELP!!

Not sure how the account would have gotten deleted, but first thing is to
make sure that your account is still showing up under the user accounts in
control panel. If so, one way you can do a work around is to click the link
under user accounts "change the way users log on or off" and deselect "use
the welcome screen." Unchecking this option will require you to enter your
user name and password in order to log in on the computer instead of just
selecting the one you want to log in as. Maybe somebody else knows the fix
to bring the user back onto the welcome screen, but this should help you in
the mean time :-)

Hello Sandi,

Just to check:

Download and install Microsoft's TweakUI here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
You want the 147 KB version - scroll down on the right.

After installing, start it and click on 'Logon"
In the right-hand pane, is the missing username showing - as in 'Show
"username" on Welcome screen? If it is, is the box checked?

Thanks, The account isn't showing up under user names. Yesterday I had 2
different pictures and names attached to them. Today I only have the one I
created yesterday. The original one is totally gone from the control panel.

Do you mean cancel "fast switching" ? I tried that and it still didn't come
back.
Being a computer novice I find this very frustrating.

Sandi,

Have you tried a System Restore?
